The STC-Carolina Unconference

The NEW Web: An Unconference

When: Saturday, November 4, from 9 to 5
Where: Talley Student Center on the NC State Campus
Cost: Free to attend
What to bring: Laptops with wireless if you have them, lunch money, an open mind
Who can attend: Everyone!

STC Carolina and NC State STC Student Chapter are hosting our first ever unconference! The idea for this event is to share up-to-the-minute information about new web developments that are both easy and essential right now. We have scheduled sessions, but if there is something else you want to discuss then we can do that, too. The best part of any conference often takes place outside of the formal sessions; learning from and sharing with your peers is just as important and often more useful. That's the opportunity this unconference provides.

What is an unconference?

Focus

Only a few years ago, HTML and FTP were about all you really needed to know to be pretty web savvy, but that has changed. Things are actually easier now, but so much is completely new that there is a lot to learn! This unconference will highlight some of the wonderful new web technologies that are changing how people use the internet.

Sessions

We have a number of presenters scheduled with great sessions:

With an unconference, no one person or group "owns" the event. If there is something else you want to see, plenty of folks will be there who can demo it--maybe you want to show something to others! We have plenty of great rooms and equipment for holding spontaneous sessions or having break-out sessions for folks who are more interested in some topics than others. Yes, it's all quite democratic and requires some self-organizing on the day of the event. It's your unconference; make it what you want it to be.

Directions

Parking in spaces near the Talley Student Center is not a problem on weekends, but you don't need to search for a space. Instead, go straight to the parking deck near the student center.

PARKING TIP: The bottom level of the parking deck always costs money, even on the weekends. If you enter the parking deck from second level, the parking is FREE on the weekend! So turn onto Jenson and enter from there. The signs on the parking lot entrances make it clear that the lowest level costs money, but now you know the secret to free weekend parking on campus!

Registration

You can now register online. Anyone can attend and the unconference sessions are free!
